Built for the Body in Motion

As summer heat fades and fall chill sets in, nailing down the ideal outerwear is tough. Too fine of a jacket quickly results in chattering teeth. That means runners, cyclists and hikers often fall back on bulky layers designed to keep warmth locked in — until they’re quickly overheating.

The result: half-undone zippers and flapping coattails run rampant, with discomfort and distraction close behind.

“We make it about the environment that you’re in and enjoying that space and enabling you to be comfortable in that space,” says Josh Hiney, Design Director for Advanced Concepts. “At lululemon, functionality will always come first.  And we believe what separates us from the market is how our design ethos plays into that functionality.”

That starts with innovative material combinations that balance protection and breathability to eliminate distraction. That was our focus in creating a line of men’s outerwear engineered to adapt to the body in motion, in the elements.

“It’s about how the ventilation works within the system. It’s about the different fabrics that you compare within it,” says Hiney. “If you need a fully waterproof garment, there’s so many of them out there, and more or less you’re gonna be dry. It’s whether or not you’re gonna be comfortable — that’s where we saw our opportunity to deliver something different.”

Extensive collaboration between several teams made that vision a reality, extending our commitment to high-sweat activity from indoor environments to anywhere your journey takes you.

“We had amazing collaboration between our developers and fit specialists and sourcing partners and raw material partners,” says Jennie McMartin, Product Manager for Advanced Concepts. “There were so many different people that went into creating this.

Built for the body in motion, functional tech was paired with an understated aesthetic to help our garments blend with any setting when you’re on the go.

“All of it’s tailored and technical at the exact same time,” says Hiney.
